Fundamental Physics PI Chairs Undergraduate Research Conference
Don Jacobs was co-chair of CUR 2000, the Eighth National Conference of the Council on
Undergraduate Research (CUR). The biennial Conference was held at The College of Wooster
from June 22-24, 2000 and hosted over 600 science faculty and administrators from hundreds
of colleges and universities. The national conference allowed extensive and intense
conversations about issues of concern to faculty and administrators with this year's
theme being The Many Facets of Undergraduate Research.
The Council on Undergraduate Research helps to strengthen the research programs of
faculty in predominantly undergraduate institutions and promotes research by undergraduate
students with faculty in all settings of science, mathematics, and engineering education.
Workshops at the conference addressed several broad areas of concern: faculty development,
facilities, collaborations, research resources and funding, and interdisciplinary research.
Jacobs helped develop the themes, select workshops, schedule the conference, and provide
the logistics at The College of Wooster, where he is a full professor and principal
investigator on a NASA Fundamental Physics grant.
