MIT Students Awarded Prizes
The group of Wolfgang Ketterle of MIT continues to gain recognition for their work in
laser-cooled atoms in the Fundamental Physics discipline. Dan M. Stamper-Kurn won the
2000 APS award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Atomic, Molecular, or
Optical Physics. His thesis topic was "Peeking and poking at a new quantum fluid:
studies of gaseous Bose-Einstein condensates in magnetic and optical traps". As well,
Ananth Chikkatur won the MIT Deutsch Award for Excellence in Experimental Physics for 2000.
