Review Paper Discusses Enhancement and Suppression in Bose-Einstein Condensates

A major review paper on collective enhancement and suppression in Bose-Einstein condensates, including a thorough discussion of the interplay between matter wave amplification and optical amplification, has been prepared by PI Wolfgang Ketterle and coauthors Ananth Chikkatur and Chandr Raman of MIT. The review will be published in a special issue of Compte rendus de l'academie des sciences, Serie IV - Physique Astrophysique. The paper describes how recent observations in the experiments of Ketterle's group have addressed these special processes of the condensate state and discusses the common roots and differences between them.
