SIGNIFICANT EVENTS - GENERAL
Children's Activities Relating to Fundamental Physics now on Web Site
The JPL web site http://spaceplace.jpl.nasa.gov now
has two activities for children that relate to the Fundamental Physics research program.
Under the title "Make Spacey Things" is an activity "Build a Momentum Machine" that links
to the method for laser cooling of atoms. And under the title "Space science in action"
is the topic "Shoot a cannonball around the world" where concepts related to gravity and
free-fall are described.
This web site was originally developed to present New Millennium Program mission concepts
to the target audience of 7 to 12-year olds. The web site development team is now offering
their skills and infrastructure to small NASA programs to help them develop outreach products
for this portion of the public. The team has received a Presidential Citation for their
web site work for the New Millennium Program.
