JPL Group Gains Talented Postdoc
Dr. Konstantin Penanen has joined Talso Chui's group at JPL for a Postdoctoral Scholar
appointment. Dr. Penanen graduated from Harvard University in 1999 under the supervision
of Prof. P.S. Pershan. His Ph. D. thesis was titled "Free Surface of Liquid Helium Films
Studied by X-Ray Specular Reflectivity". After his graduation, he did postdoctoral research
with Prof. Richard Packard at U. C. Berkeley where he studied superfluid flow through small
orifices in 4He at low temperatures. This experience will benefit his work at JPL where he
will be investigating the depression of the superfluid density near the lambda transition
under flow conditions.
