Fundamental Physics Investigator Talks About Time
Kurt Gibble of Penn State University, an investigator in the Fundamental Physics
flight research program, was featured in a live, nationally broadcast call-in show on
NPR on January 1, 2003. The segment discussed the need for accurate atomic clocks, how
they impact our lives, and about future optical frequency atomic clocks.
The lead for the radio segmant went as follows: "The alarm clock rings. Years come
and go. Time is immutable, beyond our control. But the way we think about time isn't
so set. Down time, time out, making good time -- and losing it. In the second hour
of Talk of the Nation, Neal Conan and his guests talk about the slippery nature of time."
