CQ Investigator Publishes Outreach Paper
Professor David Goodstein of Caltech, the PI on the CQ guest investigation slated to
fly on the first mission of the Low Temperature Microgravity physics facility, reports
the acceptance of a paper to explain his team's research to other physicists not
specialists in this field. The paper, "A Dynamic New Look at the Lambda Transition"
by David Goodstein and Andrew R. Chatto, has been accepted for publication by the American
Journal of Physics. The authors discuss aspects of the theory of critical points
and they explore the superfluid transition in 4He. The paper reviews recent theoretical
and experimental work on this system emphasizing non-equilibrium conditions. Some
near-future space experiments that might shed light on disagreements between theory
nd experiments are also described.
