PI Team Publishes Landmark Paper

PI John Lipa of Stanford reports that a paper describing the Lambda Point Experiment and the complete analysis of the data was recently accepted by Physical Review-B. This is a long paper giving the scientific community access to detail about the experiment and the data analysis. This detailed paper was prepared because it is unlikely that a repeat measurement will be done for some time. A number of recent theoretical estimates have been made for the heat capacity exponent alpha, increasing the science team's desire to derive the most accurate value possible from the experiment. The new value for alpha that was derived from the LPE data is slightly different from that published earlier and is expected to be significantly more reliable. The measured value falls between two recent theoretical estimates, but outside the error bars of either. The onus is now on the theorists to improve the compatibility of their results.
